Obituary

Ruth M. Stewart, 83, of Moline, IL, passed away on November 7, 2020, at Generations, Rock Island, IL.
Services will be held at a later date.
Ruth was born in Mystic, IA, on February 1, 1937, to Fred and Mary (McIntosh) Drew.  On June 9, 1957, she married Marvin Stewart at the Moline Gospel Temple in Moline, IL.
Ruth graduated from Moline High School in 1955. She started her career at A & P Grocery store, where she met her future husband, Marvin. Ruth was employed for many years at John Deere  Jr. High School cafeteria and then retired from Augustana College as a baker at Westerlin residence hall. She was a member of Hillsdale Methodist Church.
Ruth loved to be outdoors, especially when she was camping, fishing and boating with her family and husband. She was an accomplished cook and baker. Her family will miss her fabulous meals and desserts. Especially her pie’s! Her pie crust was legendary. Spending time with her family was her ultimate joy, and seeing her great-grandson grow was incredibly wonderful. Ruth and Marvin’s granddaughter Lindsay spent much time with them as a young girl and enjoyed that time very much. Ruth was an animal lover at heart, taking in many pets throughout the years. She also enjoyed many sewing activities, including quilting, embroidering, and crocheting.
Survivors include her daughter Cindy L. Stewart,  Kenosha WI;  sons, Marlon “Moe” (Maribeth) Stewart and Brian (Pete) Stewart, both of Moline, IL, two grandchildren, Lindsay E. (Jesus) Vazquez East Moline, IL  and Andy (Bekke) Parker Moline, IL, great-grandchildren,  Santiago Vazquez East Moline, IL, and Lauren Parker Moline, IL, fur grandchildren, Stormy, Lucy, Harley, Franklin, and Roxy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, who passed away on October 2, 2017.

Dear Cindy, Marlon,Brian and family, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved mother, grandma , great grandma, and loyal friend. There is not enough room to list all the wonderful things I could say about Ruth. { and Marvin] They both were simply the best. Knowing Ruth has given me many wonderful and hilarious memories. Which I cherish. She was by far a true original. So wise and witty and down to earth. Oh how she loved all of you. It was a privilege to not only work with her but to be her friend was a true gift . OH! and to get one of her pies was like winning the lottery. Much love to you all. With deep sympathy, Diane Reilly

I want to send my condolences for both Ruth and Marv from me and friends of Hillsdale United Methodist Church. We dearly LOVED having them in our congregation. I believe they started attending while camping in this area. They were always so positive and smiling in that same front pew. They were loved by all of us.

So sorry for your loss - Hope u can find peace. Ruth was always fun - she talked about on her wedding day that she introduced my parents as Aunt Frank & Uncle Thelma. Then she would just laugh.

Mom,
Thank you for the tremendous impact you had on my life. You guided me to be the person I am today. You taught me humor, creativity and the love for cooking. I haven’t mastered your pie crust, but I’m working on it.
You and Dad also taught us the value of spending time with your kids. We had so many memorable summers in Wisconsin. I will never forget the goofy matching T-shirts that we sported. Embarrassing then, priceless now. They weren’t European vacations but they were family focused and the memories live on.
While I miss you terribly, I take comfort in knowing that you are with Dad, your Marvin.
Rest In Peace Mom!
Love always,
Your daughter
